A fractional CMO costs between $5,000 and $15,000 per month in most US markets, with a typical engagement running 12 months. DMN8 Partners charges $7,500 per month. That buys a senior marketing executive plus the team that executes, which is the part most buyers do not realize they are comparing.

The monthly number only means something once you know what sits behind it. Two proposals at the same price can describe completely different jobs: one is a senior person who advises, the other is a senior person who leads a team that does the work. This guide covers what moves the price, what the real alternative costs, and who should not hire a fractional CMO at all.

What the Price Range Depends On

Three things decide where an engagement lands between $5,000 and $15,000 a month.

Company size. A business with one location, one sales team and a handful of channels needs less senior time than a multi-location company with several service lines, separate budgets and a sales team to coordinate. More moving parts means more hours of leadership.

Scope. Some engagements cover marketing only. Others reach into the sales side: how leads are followed up, how proposals are closed, how reps are coached. The wider the scope, the higher the fee, and the closer the work gets to the revenue number.

Whether execution is included. This is the biggest variable, and the one buyers miss most often. A strategy-only fractional CMO writes the plan and leaves you to find people to carry it out. An execution-included engagement brings the team that builds the website, runs the ads and manages local search. A strategy-only proposal at $6,000 can easily cost more in total than an execution-included one at $9,000, once you add the agencies and hires the strategy-only option still needs.

The Real Comparison Is a Payroll Line

Most owners compare a fractional CMO with an agency retainer. The more useful comparison is with what it costs to build the same capability in-house.

The average base salary for a chief marketing officer in the US is $225,908, according to Built In (2026). That is base pay only.

A CMO also does not build your website or manage your ad accounts. A CMO directs people who do. To get the work done you would add at least three marketing team members. At $56,818 each, the Kentucky average for a digital marketing specialist (ZipRecruiter, 2026), that is $170,454 a year.

Together: $396,362 a year before benefits, payroll taxes, software, recruiting time and the months it takes a new team to learn your business.

A fractional CMO engagement at $7,500 a month is $90,000 a year, and when execution is included, the team comes with it.

What Is Included and What Is Billed Separately

Ask any fractional CMO for this list in writing before you sign. At DMN8 Partners it looks like this.

Included in the $7,500 monthly fee:

  • Gary Geiman’s leadership as your fractional CMO
  • The full DMN8 team that executes the plan
  • 3 to 4 days per quarter on site with your team

Billed separately:

  • Third-party advertising spend, such as Google Ads and Local Services Ads budgets
  • Software and subscriptions

Keeping ad spend and software outside the fee means the fee pays for leadership and execution only, and you can see exactly what was spent on media.

Who a Fractional CMO Is Not For

A fractional CMO is the wrong purchase in two situations.

Companies under $1 million in revenue. At that size the money usually does more good in direct lead generation, such as Google Maps visibility, paid search and a website that converts, than in senior leadership. There is not yet enough marketing activity for a CMO to direct.

Anyone who wants advice rather than execution. If you want a monthly strategy call and a slide deck, a consultant will cost less. A fractional CMO is built to own results, and that only works when the plan is carried out and measured against booked revenue.

How the DMN8 Model Works

DMN8 Partners runs fractional CMO engagements at $7,500 per month with a twelve month minimum. A full year gives the work time to show up in revenue rather than in clicks.

We take on four fractional CMO clients at a time. That cap is what keeps the senior time real: each client gets leadership that is not spread across dozens of accounts.

Results are measured in signed work and booked revenue, not impressions. Every lead is tracked to its source, so you can see which spend turns into consultations and closed business.

If your company is above $1 million in revenue and the person directing marketing is you, see how our fractional CMO service works, or book a strategy call to see whether a seat is open.
